The education programme

A programme built on NSW obligations and their deadlines.

Free, practical education at the Waste & Resource Recovery Expo, built around real NSW challenges: government and policy, circular economy, technology and safety, and practical implementation.

A seminar room with a seated audience and a projector

The difference

Practical, because the deadlines are published.

Dated targets

The NSW EPA's Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy 2041 sets an 80% average recovery rate from all waste streams by 2030.

01

Named schemes

An operating licence under the POEO Act, the section 88 waste levy from 1 July 2026 at $180.20 a tonne in the Metropolitan Levy Area and $103.80 in the Regional Levy Area, and Return and Earn.

02

Funded work

A $16 million NSW EPA joint procurement facilitation service, so local government can procure waste services collectively.

What each strand covers, and why now.

What each strand brings to the floor.

The Council Agenda

Creates demand for bins, fleet, software, weighing, contamination technology, organics processing and collection services.

Brings OEMs, project developers, financiers, operators and advisers into one commercial conversation.

Insurable by Design

Drives demand for fire detection, thermal imaging, suppression, battery separation, sensors, storage and risk engineering.

The New Buyers

Pulls packaging, recycling, plastics processing, traceability and recovered-material suppliers into demand-side conversations with obligated producers.

Proof, Not Claims

Creates a serious market for software, sensors, weighing, cameras, RFID, telematics and material analytics.

Australia's Next Mine Is Above Ground

Creates a platform for shredding, sorting and separation, and battery and e-waste processing technology.

Organics After the Mandate

Connects processors and councils with composters, depackagers, screens, anaerobic digestion, odour and contamination technology.

On stage

The subjects are set before the sessions are.

Each strand becomes a run of stage sessions and panels, sitting alongside the expo floor.

In tracks

Sessions run in tracks, so a council team, an operator or a consultant can follow one subject through the day.

The Public Sector Hub

Education designed for public sector teams, from FOGO and procurement to compliance and community education.

For exhibitors

Speaking and panel opportunities within the education programme, in front of an engaged, relevant audience.

Speakers

Who speaks, and what they bring.

The day

How the programme fits into a day here.

Two days at Sydney Showground, with the education programme running alongside a full trade exhibition.

The expo floor

Plant, technology and services from 80+ exhibitors, with equipment working in the Live Equipment & Technology Demonstrations.

The stage

Sessions from the strands above, so a day can be planned around the subject you are answerable for.

The Procurement Exchange

Pre-booked 1-to-1 meetings with suppliers, an addition to the trade exhibition rather than a substitute for it.

Alongside the stage

The inaugural programme also carries an AI in Waste Pavilion, an Innovation Showcase for new product launches, and the Resource Recovery Awards.

Who is in the room

2,000+ industry professionals, with 250+ public sector buyers among them: operators, councils, engineers, consultants and MRFs.
